Statement of PhilosophyOur commitmentHere at Fernside Preschool we have a unique rural setting, which allows the children to learn by exploring and discovering the world around them. We will provide a high standard of education and care in a safe and nurturing environment where children and families/whānau feel welcome, valued and respected. We believe our spacious, natural outdoor area enables children to best develop a sense of adventure and joy, experience freedom of play, and learn to take risks in a safe and supportive environment. Our farmyard encourages children to learn how to respect and care for animals, and understand their importance in daily life. Strong relationships between kaiako and tamariki are fundamental to everything we do. Through a strong connection, children develop a sense of belonging, where they feel safe, secure, respected and confident to learn. We recognise that every child is unique, and their family beliefs, culture and their aspirations for their tamariki will be respected within our centre. We provide an inclusive environment through the use of te reo Māori, tikanga, and providing children with the opportunity to learn and develop respect for both partners of Te Tiriti O Waitangi. Every child will be supported in their learning experiences, ensuring their individual needs and interests are met. The teaching within our centre will focus on the holistic development of the child supporting emotional, physical, social and intellectual development. Learning journals are an important record of every child's time at Fernside Preschool and through these the relationships between home and preschool are strengthened. These are presented to family/ whanau through an online portal, and to children through their very own learning journal, kept in the classroom for them to revisit anytime. Our Teachers are supported to extend their knowledge through professional development and mentoring to provide both personal growth and understanding of up to date practices. Family and community are an important part of our centre. Family/whānau are always welcome to visit the centre and participate in their child's learning journey. We understand that parents know their children best and therefore strive for excellent communication and relationships with them. We will strive to ensure every child enjoys their time at Fernside Preschool as much as we enjoy having them here! |
